Yup, can access secure websites.

I have Windows XP professional. I'm not sure what service pack I have, but I think it's 2. How would I check exactly?

I use Firefox. When I try accessing a secure website(such as hotmail), my connection gets refused. When I try doing it on Internet Explorer, I get a The page cannot be displayed page.

Do you have a firewall, or a control of any kind that is preventing access? Also, have you scanned for spyware?

I do have firewalls, but I usually don't turn them on since it slows down my computer.  :-/

I  object of firewalls is to siff though net traffic.......to help you.......re-set firewall setting to allow sites you use.......it will slow the process if you use kazza........./p2p programs...try spyweeper and freemramxp to ........help solve  your problems.......majargeeks.com..or download0.com*znet.com

If you go to the control panel , make sure its set to display "classic" ......then click on the system icon .....when it opens you will see what o/s you have and the service pak # .......If you dont have SP2 go to windows update page and download it ......as well as the other critical updates .

If you have a hijacker, all sorts of odd things may occur.

It's probably not firefox, since it does not work on Internet Explorer either. I leave my wireless connection disabled. I'm also the only one on my network who is afflicted by this.

i think the cause is in the security settings in ur IE.

tools > internet options > advanced
scroll down to security
ensure SSL 2 and SSL 3 are both checked.

I have tried all(barring one or two) methods in your further reading link. All of them were fine. Sadly, I had turned off System Restore before this secure connection thing occured, so I can not do that. I will try the remaining methods later.

fresh.......I had a look at your hijackthis log ......and I dont see anything out of line there ........... Do you use .......  http://www.gamefaqs.com/     as your home page ?   Other than that I see nothing odd.

And , You do have a firewall that is part of SP2 ( I dont know if you have it turned on , but you do have it )

Go into your control panel...... security  ....and enable it .

I solved my problem. I do not know exactly how, but I do know what it might be.

I uninstalled Norton last night since my suscription ran out a week or two ago. That might be it.

Also, I downloaded an update from Microsoft this morning. This probably solved my problem.
