Download videos from youtube

As I am a rookie to the Computer, please tell me how to download videos.
I copied down what I thought was the URL and it says error/ not valid URL.
I know it comes easy for the kids to do all that with youtube and my space,etc. I need to hire a ten year old to show me this stuff.
Anyway I Thankyou for any help you can give me.

Use this site to submit the URL of the video page. This will then allow you to download that video.

There are also numerous Greasemonkey Scripts that give you an option to download the video from Youtube by clicking an added link.
