I think smilies are both overrated and overused...
That's just me though...carry on.
Agreed. In all of my time here at Computer Hope, I have never used an emoticon (at least, not to my recollection) and I don't intend to.
I never likes smiles... I only use them to make a user assume what vocal tone I am trying to project. (Avoiding people assuming that you are in fact yelling at this, which, half the time, when I include a smilie, I truly am)
I dont mind text smilies.. eg: : ) (without the replacing smilie thing....)
I "broke" smilies on my forum...
Each smilie (with the exception of ?? ? ) is 0.18 KB (186 bytes)
We have an average of 322.68 users online daily...
I am guessing that each post has around 2-4 smilies at least at the minimum... (so, we will call it 3)
322.68 * 0.18 = 58.0824
Think of the bandwidth we could save, people! 58KB in a day! (1.7MB in a month)
I honestly find smilies annoying. I keep trying to remind myself to separate smilie text with a space so it wont use the image.
Still, some people like them... but, thats not my choice.
