    Virus Problems, Please help....
    « on: August 29, 2008, 08:22:58 PM »
Ok I have a HP Media Center Edition Version 2002. I tried to go to the add/remove programs list and there are several things that I do not recognise. As well as Several things that I know should be there are not.... Like 4 different IE toolbars(I know that are not needed-cannot uninstall b/c they are not there) and Yahoo Messenger. AVG cannot connect to the internet, keeps saying connection failed. And I have to restart twice today during scanns to get this thing to recognise the keyboard. AVG found weather bug and I think that is where this all started. Any help is greatly appreciated!Malware Bytes did not find anything....

Download ComboFix by sUBs from one of the below links. Be sure top save it to the Desktop.

    Link #1
    Link #2

**Note:  It is important that it is saved directly to your Desktop

Close any open Web browsers. (Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc) before starting ComboFix.

Temporarily disable your antivirus, and any antispyware real time protection before performing a scan. Click this link to see a list of security programs that should be disabled and how to disable them.

Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished ComboFix will produce a log for you.
Post the ComboFix log and a new HijackThis log in your next reply.

Important: Do not mouseclick ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Remember to re-enable your antivirus and antispyware protection when ComboFix is complete.

      Disable Spybot's TeaTimer

While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can also interfere with HijackThis fixes Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean.

      1. Right click Spybot in the System Tray (looks like a calendar with a padlock symbol). Choose Exit Spybot S&D Resident
      2. Run Spybot S&D
      3. Go to the Mode menu, and make sure Advanced Mode is selected.
      4. On the left hand side, choose Tools > Resident
uncheck Resident TeaTimer and OK any prompt and Restart your computer.

      Note:
If TeaTimer gives you a warning afterwards that some changes were made, allow this instead of blocking it.

      ----------

Open HijackThis and select Do a system scan only.

Place a check mark next to the following entries: (if there)

      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE

Important: Close all windows except for HijackThis and then click Fix checked.

Exit HijackThis, run CCleaner and restart the computer to register the changes made by HijackThis.

      ----------

      How is everything now?

So, do you think this is a virus or trojan or what?

As far as I can tell everything seems alright. BUT that is how things were before, except little things here and there. AVG will just stop working out of the blue, and my add/remove programs are still all messed up... By the way AVG Still cannot update....

Add/remove programs list has several things I di not know:
        23_24_2500tour
        2400
        2400_2500Help
        2400_2500trb
        AiO_Scan
        AiOMinimal
        AiOSoftware
        Copy
        CreativeProjects
        Director
        DocProc
        Scan
        TrayApp
        Unload
        Webring
All say Used Rarely and that is all the info it gives...

Also Toolbars like yahoo, and AOL are not on the unstall list and I want them gone(Along with the google that IS there in the uninstall list)

I really appreciate your help by the way!!
        Thank you!

What do you mean? If they aren't in the list then you shouldn't have them installed.

Oh. Ok, yea I have an HP All in one printer. That is fine then.
And yes, I went to uninstall my yahoo messenger and the toolbar, that is when I noticed the list was messed up.

          Try this.

          Copy the blue text.

          C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\unwise.exe

Go to Start > Run and paste the text in the run box and then click OK.

K, Great... looks like it uninstalled. What about the AVG not working? I have tried unistalling it and reinstalling it even. Then fine for two days and blinked out again... The install file is the same one I used to update three other computers, so I know that is fine and there should not be any problem there. It is only with this computer.

Not sure. Sometimes a software will work fine for every computer but a few. Consider using Avira or Avast.
