After I reinstall my windows (XP SP2), as per normal I install the cd driver for my laptop, and applications. I've done this reinstallation several times before, with no problem. Although formatted, the songs are still there because they are in different partition

This time, everytime I play mp3 with Winamp, it sounds like a broken casette, or playing scratched audio cd. No problem at all when I play streamed songs (e.g imeem.com)

I reinstall the the laptop driver 2 times
I install the sound decoder from www.free-codecs.com
I tried other jukebox player (AIMP and J. River Media Player)

    No improvement.

Please tell me the solution. Thank you very much

Yes. And one more thing. There is no problem with the sound for video files.

can you try downloading a song then play it? maybe the data was just corrupted and there's nothing wrong with your pc.

You're right. I downloaded a song and it's ok. I tried the broken mp3 files in other computer and it sounds screwed up too. Furthermore, his zone alarm detected trojan in every single music file. After cleaning it, the sound didn't restore back though.

Is there any way to restore the files? I feel there's a slight hope because there are many files that sounds broken, sounds normal with AIMP 2 player. About 10% of the files are broken, while 90% with other players

          Downloading songs are we?

If it's only that particular song (or group of songs) that have the problem, it is possible you downloaded viruses.

In which case, I would look here (one of our Malware Specialists can help you clean the computer):
