Graphics Device ???

Hi,
   I try to run a game and after a couple of seconds, an alert pops up saying, "Could not create the Graphics Device. Direct X is unavailable. [1002].” I uninstalled Direct X 9.0c accidently. I tried to reinstall but the alert continues. I need some assistance with this problem.

Some details on the machine in question and the Windows version would be helpful about now...
