USB problems with device manager

Help PLEASE

I was trying to fix an issue with my ipod.  By accident I deleted some files out of the device manager (something with upcoming files?).  Now my computer will not recognize any devices plugged in via usb or even some serial.  So, I can't get my computer to recognize my mouse or keyboard.  If I unplug and then plug in the mouse, it says it recognizes it...but i can't use it.  Nothing happens.  I can't even use tab to get to the system restore, since the keyboard isn't working.  When I try to boot in safe mode, I can scroll through the menus, like the keyboard is working.  However, I can't actually get into safe mode because the mouse isn't working once it attempts to boot. 

Can any genius out there help me?  I know I could do a reformat or something, but there must be a way to undo what I did.

Any suggestions would be so helpful...
