Acer Aspire 3000 - blank screen

A few days ago, I was trying to reboot my system in Safe Mode. As the laptop began to boot, I began pressing F8 repeatedly and suddenly, the screen went black. And it stayed that way. I switch on the power and an orange light comes on, but nothing is displayed on the screen. And I'm sure the OS isn't loading either because if I switch off manually it just goes off immediately. A quick touch of the button will switch it off. Before it took several seconds of holding the button down.

Is my laptop recoverable?

If not, is it possible to remove the hard disk and connect it to another computer to retrieve the data on it?

Should be able to pull the drive and connect it to another PC to pull the files if the drive is a 2.5 PATA you will need an adaptor
