Unusual symbols appear in Microsoft Word...plz help..urgent

I'm using Windows XP Professional SP2 edition.
I have Microsoft Office 2003 installed in my computer.

Some unusual symbols appear in my Word documents, but while Printing them or viewing them in Print Preview mode these symbols remain invisible.

I have also tried to repair as well as reinstalling Office but in vain.

Kindly refer to the snapshots attached....
One is in normal mode...the other one is in print preview mode.

All right.

In MS Word, go to Tools --> Options and make sure all the checkboxes in the attached picture are unchecked. (under Formatting Marks)
