    problem and more problems
    « on: September 25, 2008, 04:03:05 PM »
hi ev1---need a little help please. i am having multiple problems with my pc--dell vostro 1700 vista sp1-- intel core2 duo--2g ram--250 g hd. the first prob is that everytime i am trying to load certain pages it doesnt allow me to and says macromedia publisher has stopped working and everything closes. the second thing is that my pc is really slowed down and i use trend micro, cccleaner, hijackthis, superantispyware, and i seem to clean everything up but it still runs slow at times. other times it seems that it goes to a black screen for 15 seconds or so before it will start. i went to start up and removed alot of stuff from starting but still no luck. any help i would greatly appreciate it as i am going to use this pc for starting my small business and would like to save a little money instead of having to purchase a new one. thank you in advance.

I don't see anything malicious. You have quiet a few startups, but I don't think their number is so high to explain your computer slowness, and occasional booting problem.
      I'd:
      - run memtest: http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic62524.html
      - run HD diagnostic: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287

thank you so much for your help. i tried the links you sent me but unfortunately i was unable to download memtest. i found one link but i dont have win rar anymore(only trial version that expired) are there any other sites i could try? also you said there were quite a few start ups--would those be the ones with HKLM ;RUN next to them? if so could you explain how i can clean them up--im not sure how but i can try with some help. thank you again for your time and help.

Don't worry about those startups, for now.
        Run both diagnostics, first.
Vista (as well, as XP), has built-in unzipper. Just double click on .zip file, and it'll uncompress.
