Quicktime Issues

I've been having a recurring problem with my quicktime. Anytime I try to run an application that involves quicktime it says "Your software is out of date" Not a big problem here, but when i click update my computer will generally freeze up. Finally I got an update through and the pop up still comes up, I've tried re-installing it etc... nothing seems to get rid of this 'your software is out of date" Even through multiple updates, I'm looking for some help thanks!

One question I would like to ask.....Do you need Quicktime?
There are better free and faster alternatives out there.

I currently own an ipod and it is necessary for itunes to run...
Unless there is an alternative player that works with the ipod I am pretty much hooped. Though I am interested at looking into the alternatives for quicktime.

Not sure if this would help but - if you are using the ''genuine'' quicktime - maybe uninstall that and go find ''Quicktime Alternative".  (There is also a "Real Alternative" too.)

It carries less baggage!
