downloaded program disappears/ won't run

btw... norton is giving me this msg:

My suggestion would be to get rid of Norton. It is close to useless in my opinion.

There are plenty other free antivirus software that do just as well as paid ones:
AVG,
Avast!,
Antivir
(you should only have one)

First, remove Norton using the Norton Removal Tool:

i do have avg 8.0 but its side by side config is incorect

its been acouple of years since i corrected any config problems like that. i dont know where to start on vista. and no icant download other anti-virus.lol

Yeah so where were you expected to get those new anti virus from!!

Either you have deleted some important files in windows (while removing the virus) that were important for downloading things into the computer, in this case we could have got them back if your antivirus was working, but its not !

You will have to uninstall your current Norton products, and then reinstall a new one when the removal is complete.

Did you try downloading in safe mode with networking?

Try that too, lets keep applying Ideas, till I tell you that one last thing I'm avoiding!!

Running Norton and Avg on the same machine is bad. Two antivirus programs can be just as bad, if not worse, than none at all. Uninstall whichever one you like the least (I have heard a lot of bad things about Norton). Make sure you have completley removed it.

i got rid of both norton and avg and i can down load once again.
i think the problem was with avg and its side by side config problems
i was only able to down load after gettin rid of avg and i had re booted

In avast you will get the option to scan on startup when the installation completes, remember don't delete any files it finds infected, or else you will be in a bigger problem, if it finds any infection, just choose repair and if its not able to just come back here tell us about it.
