its a device to download photos of a phone that has no pc lead ( an old phone ) for an old man like me

What you connect AFTER computer starts OK, doesn't matter.

patio , a bluetooth ubs dongle for phones etc

broni , i downloaded memtest but there is no-were to make it run is it running in the back ground  and there is nothing on the desktop from it

You need to follow instructions given to you.
Read carefully at this link: http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic62524.html, which I provided before.
It has step-by-step instructions how to use memtest.

broni , i have a memtset file on the desktop but to big to send i went to the place you sent me and it will not let me download , harry

Did you read my link? You need to create memtest CD.
What do you want to download, since you have memtest on your desktop?
What file did you send, and where?

i followed as far as i know what was said

took the file and burnt a cd and ran it ( 3 times ) and it did not go

so i tried and looked for boot and can not find it

i think i may give up on this one what do you think

ok broni i had to restart my pc and the disk went on its own mybe thats it working

When your computer starts, at some point, you'll see at the bottom of black (yet) screen:
Press "some key" to enter setup.
Press "some key", and you'll get to BIOS.
Look for "boot order", or simply "boot". You'll see something like this:

Make sure, that your boot order reads:
- floppy drive
- CD drive
- hard disk
