It just goes to the gateway screen and stays there.  I think it might be a problem with my antivirus or something.  Anyways, how would I fix it?

The computer doesnt boot up anymoroe, it just stays there with a flashing cursor.  I dont want to reintall my operating system from scratch cause it would mean wiping off all the files on my HD.

A friend of mine had a problem like this once, and he said something about rewiting the mbr or something.  How would I do that, if I cant even get the computer to reboot

Or is something else I can try
