ipod shows up in windows but not itunes

Could anyone help me, I have latest itunes but my ipod does not come up in it!
Please! whats the problem

Has the OS in the iPod been played with at all (IE. Linux installed on it?)

If not, go to device manager (right click my computer, choose manage, and then go to device manager on the left hand side) and make sure there aren't any question marks in there.
