well ok! haha im calm now but im not the computer wiz i would like to be!
so i dont know exactly what operating system i am using i just browse through and see if i can make it work.
I dont know what i uninstalled , thats my biggest problem i thought that if i just described what was going on then it would help you to locate the problem. but the screen has like no proper colour and then when i want the screen area to change the curser wont allow me to change it.
i think whatever i uninstalled was the basis for the problems
does that help?

ok... Well, if we knew which Operating System you are using, then we might be able to save ourselves a lot of trouble... Lets try this to figure it out... In safe mode, click Start -> Run ... In teh run box, type  dxdiag  ... After, you might see a small text box display... Just click no to that... Next, you will see a rather large window... It will list your system information... Would you mind reading of the Operating System according to the window please?

Just click no to that... Next, you will see a rather large window... It will list your system information... Click on the Display tab on the top... Next, look at the top-left of that new page... Can you tell me about the information you see at the top-left there?

Nikki,

When you boot up your computer the first thing you see on the screen is the make and model number of your video card.  Be prepared to hit the pause key on your keyboard, because that information will normally go by pretty fast.

It appears that your video driver was deleted and needs to be reinstalled.  You will need that information I spoke of above to determine what to download.

That, of course, presumes that I understand what this thread has been about.

Nikki,

I can't see your keyboard so I don't know where your pause key is, mine is at the top after the function keys.

You will have to write it down.

Nikki,

That was a good shot but you missed it just a bit.  Actually the video information should load on the screen just before what you have there.  Now some monitors cause problems with this because they go into power saving mode and don't come up completely until after this information has gone by.

Try hitting the pause key just a bit earlier.

ahh i may go insane.. when i shutdown and then restart it that is the first thing to show up, what i already wrote out? could it be after that information cuz i am positive its not before it.. i tried pressing pause lots but that information is always first to pop up?

No Nikkie, the video has to load first or it can't display the information you have listed.

Let's try something else.

Go here http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html and download and run the Belarc Advisor.  Let's see if it will give us any good information on your video card.

The webpage you are looking at is actually on your computer, so I can't see it.
Let me know what it says under the "Display" section.

That's what I was afraid of.

You are going to need to get someone who is comfortable with computers to open up your case, and get the video information directly off the video card, or find the original documentation that came with your computer.  After you have the make and model of the card you can go to the manufacturer's website and download and install the correct video drivers for your operating system.

My memory of Win98 is a little faded but can't you just use the 'install new harware' thing and let windows choose a generic driver for this one?

Right click on my computer on the desktop, then...
properies->hardware->device manager->display adapter, then check around there to see if drivers are installed.
You will find it all in that area.
