My opinion is that they should be going after the distribution points rather then the people using those distribution points. there are far fewer places to download illegal content then there are people downloading the content.

The only problem with that is that they have servers hosted in other countries and the authorities often can't do anything about it.

Yeah, its not like there going to try to pin, oh say, Russia, or North Korea to pirating. They can't, they can't really do anything.

Which is why this isn't a win. They can however go after our ISP's and put restrictions on everyone. No matter if you are the one targeted or not.

It will only get worse from here. The RIAA has been at their agenda for years and not gone away. They just keep pushing until they find a legal avenue that's open to them.

Nothing personal, NOT to take sides, but from the objective point of view, it'll never happen.
For one reason.
It's a classic example of "weapon and anti-weapon" game, which has been played since we lived in caves, and never won by either side.

Don't forget the RIAA has been around since 1952 with the same goal all along.

Quote
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RIAA

The RIAA's goals[1] are:

   1. to protect intellectual property rights worldwide and the First Amendment rights of artists;
   2. to perform research about the music industry;
   3. to monitor and review relevant laws, regulations and policies.

I'm not saying they will get everything they want, and hopefully they won't,  but they will eventually find a medium that makes them happy...for now. Then they will be off on another mission. Remember, this is a group of lawyers who not only love their job but likely have a hefty bonus waiting for everything positive they do. There is a lot of incentive for them to win and it likely isn't about protecting anyones rights but more about not loosing their fight.

There about as apt to do more than bother me than the anti-gun activists are to take away the semi-automatic Bulgarian SSR AK-47 my friend is getting me soon. As in, through a hail of 7.62x39mm FMJ, and over my dead body.

Nah, just for shootin', get bored, goto the range. I'mma get a place in Roanoke County in a few years. When I do, appliances better not fail if they want a quick death. Oh, that friend of mine also plans to get a me a East German 9x18mm Makarov PM handgun when I turn 21 in two years.

Oh, the AK is good here in the city for scaring off sales men, doesn't have to be loaded. Point it at 'em, they'll run, fast.

works for all solicitors! Jehovah's witnesses too!

"No, but if you don't want a bullet going through both your ears you'll turn round and leave."

What about Mormons or Catholics? Tend to get a lot of them knocking on my door here, mostly the latter.

Oh, here's a funny quote from Fallout 3:

"Photons have mass? I didn't even know they where Catholic!"
