    MY COMPUTER commands won't work
    « on: January 05, 2009, 05:30:16 PM »
    Wondered if anyone can help with this. I was attempting to get rid of some malware in my computer when I ran accross a forum that said to use Stopzilla. So I did. when i clicked on the setup file it seem to have added a bunch of windows 95 bootup files to my computer. I have everything running except for clicking into MY COMPUTER. it will go there, but when i click onto the C: or D: or E: it says "resycled/boot.com is not a valid win32 application.
    I have found that my autorun.inf file has this:

    [autorun]
    ;tbgcdpxuipcaewbyllsxiuujgacty cwrtpyjxekaxdyrwefvrmpjifweiev kjkhxqodiyddckwueprptakkrgjduf uttpp
    shellexecute="resycled\boot.com c:"
    ;dphvmvwptdrtkrwaqlzmsufpsberp czmjlzpxkznk
    shell\Open\command="resyc led\boot.com c:"
    ;rnjgwrscceyoknobrmusby
    it also created an autoexec.nt.txt file with:
    @echo off
    1h %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\mscdexnt .exe
    1h %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\redir
    1h %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\dosx
    SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 p330 t3
    although I don't think it is trying to run the last one.
    I can get to my files by right clicking on C: or D: and clicking EXPLORE but can't just double click on the C: and get there like I used to. Also the CDs still autoplay like they should.
    How could I get it back like it should be?

      It was infected, and we have cleaned it out but I am still left with an autorun.inf file with no good commands. What I need to know is what to edit in there to make it run MY COMPUTER without a hitch.

      rename it. hard drives should never have an autorun.inf file.

      Also, most of that looks like Config.sys/autoexec.bat type stuff. autorun.inf only sets the icon for a drive and the executable to autorun, (as well as right-click menus and the like)

      autoruns are commonly used to spresd an infection further into the system...

        Thanx for the advice. renaming the autorun.inf got me into the c: perfectly. I went into regedit and found all the keys that had boot.com in them and D: and E: now come up ok. One final question. when I click MY Computer and click on C: it opens C: in the same window. When I click on D: or E: it opens them in seperate windows. I click on MY Computer..Tools.. Folder options and all are set to "Open each folder in the same window"  So how can I get them all to work in 1 window?
