Can you still not get to Normal Mode?

How about Safe Mode With Networking?

I am still not getting the normal mode.  I have not tried safe mode with networking yet.  I will get back to you on that later.

      Hi,

I am neither getting the normal mode nor get internet connection when safe mode with networking is selected.
I am however able to get into safe mode and work.  The drivers for the printer and others are not loaded under the safe mode.

      Try Dial-a-fix.

Download Dial-a-Fix by djlizard, save it to the desktop then extract it to it's own folder.

      • Open the folder and run Dial-a-fix.exe
      • 2 windows will open. Close the one in the background labeled Restrictive Policies
      • Check the box in section 1, Empty temp folders.
      • Check the box in section 2, Fix Windows Installer.
      • Check the box in section 3, Fix Windows Update.
      • Check the box in section 4, labeled SSL/HTTPS/Cryptography. The 4 boxes under it should be pre-checked
      • Check all boxes in section 5, labeled Registration Center.
      • Click Go
      • OK any error messages if received, but write them down and post them here.
      • Restart the computer when done.
      .
Can you log on to Normal mode now??

Holala........Eureka...I was able to get to the normal mode after running the Dial-a-fix.  I did not get an error message though.

I am so happy.  What went wrong and how do I prevent its recurrence in the future.

        Thanks for all the support.

        Regards,
        Collins

I'm not sure what went wrong.

Now let's make sure everything is gone, or not...

        Run the Kaspersky Online Scanner

In Microsoft Windows Vista, you must open the Web browser using the Run as Administrator command. From the Desktop right click the icon to open the browser and choose Run as Administrator.

        • Click on SCAN NOW
        • Click Accept.
        • The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
        • Once the files have been downloaded locate the Scan Settings and have it scan My Computer.
        • The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it finish.
When the scan is done, in the Scan is complete window, any infection is displayed.
There is no option to clean/disinfect, however, we need to analyze the information on the report.

        To obtain the report:
        Click on: Save Report As
        • Next, in the Save as prompt, Save in area, select: Desktop.
        • In the File name area use KScan, or something similar.
        • In Save as type: click the drop arrow and select: Text file [*.txt]
        • Then, click: Save

Copy and paste the Kaspersky Online Scanner Report in your next reply.

Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble viewing the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the bottom right of the IE window and set the zoom to 75%. Once the license is accepted, reset to 100%.

I am unable to do the scanning using the Kapersky.  The "next" tab is not highlighted.  Is it because I am using Windows XP?

The message should have been "I am unable to scan because the "accept" tab on the kapersky on line scanner is not highlighted so I couldn/t Scan my computer.  Is it because I am using windows XP?"

                Try another scanner please.

                Scan with Panda ActiveScan

                This scanner requires Internet Explorer

                • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC now button
                • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
                • Enter your Country
                • Enter your State/Province
                • Enter your e-mail address and click send
                • Select either Home User or Company
                • Select the appropriate Yes or No to receiving marketing information
                • Click the Free Online Scan button
                • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
                • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
                • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
                • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Post the contents of the ActiveScan report in your next reply.

This is the one for the full scan.  It is the same as the quick scan.
