won't let me chat

I click on the start chating button and it acts like it is going to work, but it says wait 3 minutes for applet to load if that doesn't work click here.  I have waited and clicked and it still won't open anything.  It gives me the little red x in the corner.  I only have dial up.  Is this the problem and is there any way I can fix it???

What chat program are you using? You may have to reload it. Also consider the possibilty of a virus/trojan/worm etc (yes, even people on dialup can get them). Usually when programs can't run, they just fail. They don't generally tell you to wait 3 minutes and hope for the best.

Most JAVA chats do that, such as yahoo games in a pool room. Do u have JAVA installed? www.sunmicrosystems.com if you dont.
