Copy the DT2 files to another folder, say %temp%, then rename them to filename.jpg and they should open in your default image viewer or browser.

Same with ID2 but rename them filename.txt and they should open in Notepad or whatever your default is.

Good luck

OK Harry, seems like you changed the extension of an image file (.DT2) to .txt then tried to get Notepad to open it, plain text editors like Notepad cannot open image files.

So we'll try something slightly different.

Open the folder which contains the original .DT2 files.   Click to open any .DT2 file and when the pane opens saying that Windows cannot open this file, check the box to select from a list of files then click OK.   A window showing a list of well-known programs will be displayed, on that list highlight Internet Explorer (or Firefox if that is your browser) then check the box which says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" then click OK.  Alternatives to Internet Explorer or Firefox could be any image displaying program such as Windows Picture and Fax Viewer or another image program you have installed, such as Irfanview.

From here on any time you click on a .DT2 file whichever program you selected will open the file.  The hip name for this process is File Association, in other words you have associated the file type (DT2) with a program to open it.

Do the same for the .ID2 files but this time select Notepad as the program to open them.

Good luck

hello dusty , i was able to open and delete some dt2 files but most brought up the warning bar saying blocked content , so i clicked it and warned of scrolls and active x

i clicked download but they will not open

the id2 files i had to right click them to send them to notepad and they turn out to be code of some sort as you can see below , but when i look at it in notepad it's just a line of squares

thank you , harry

OK Harry - back with you now, sorry for delay.

Please attach one of each file type without trying to open it in Notepad or any other program.  If an error message is displayed please post the EXACT complete message.

DT2 files - had no problem opening the one you e-mailed.   I opened it with FireFox and Irfanview then renamed it with the extension .JPG and again opened it with Irfanview.  (See attached).   Please send a .DT2 file you are having problems opening.

Not had any success with opening the .ID2 file you sent but think it contains a description for a specific DT2 file which would be displayed with that file.

Can you no longer open the files with MSN Live?

Even if you do delete these- MSN will likely recreate them the next time their needed.

none of the files will come up with the warnings after i tried to convert them as in

the previous posts above , i do think that they are all msn text and pictures files

converted to stop me opening them, so i am going to mess around with them as i

have got irfanview and then i will delete all of them , i can still open files on msn

what do you think , harry

I've never used MSN, in fact I steer clear of it for various, though probably unfounded, reasons.   What I would do is create another folder somewhere and move all the DT2 and ID2 files to there.  If no program issues a "file not found" error message for any of them for say a couple of weeks I'd then delete the lot.  If you run MSN and it does re-create the files in the original folder then I'd probably get rid of MSN unless there is a compelling reason why you want to continue using it.

What are your possibly unfounded reasons Dusty? I haven't had any problems with it.

I thought someone might take me to task for that statement.  I haven't had any problems with it either, due to never having used it, just like I've never used IE.  I seem to remember some not so complimentary comments about MSN but, as I said, probably unfounded.

I'd never own a Ford vehicle either for the same unfounded reasons.
