PC boot up gone all strange
    « on: January 20, 2009, 08:22:02 AM »
The PC crashed, only way to sort it out after leaving  for about 20mins was to remove the power supply.
Now on reboot, after the initial manufacturers screen it comes up with the following

    Diskette drive 0 seek failure

Press F1 to continue, F2 to enter setup

In F2 the set up is Sata 0 recognises the hard disk.
Also in Setup have tried 1st boot as HD and 2nd boot CDROM and the other way round.

If you press F1 the PC boots up ok to the users page.
Any reason why the PC will not boot as per normal.

    Thanks.

Diskette is more commonly referred to as a floppy drive.

In your BIOS, disable your floppy drive and the problem should go away.

      Using Win Vista Home premium.
Supposedly my son was doing homework either on Word or Publisher then it all froze. Left it for about 20mins could not reboot or bring up task manager so only option was to pull the plug.
Do not have a full OS disk.

      Download Windows Recovery Console: http://www.thecomputerparamedic.com/files/rc.iso
Download, and install free Imgburn: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
Using Imgburn, burn rc.iso to a CD.
Boot to the CD...let it finish loading.
When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
Then, follow the steps from here: http://icrontic.com/articles/repair_windows_xp, starting below this picture on page 1:
