« on: January 24, 2009, 03:35:48 PM »
im not really sure how or y i got to this site but i did and ive been having some computer hardware issuses aka parts of the motherboard
but when i plug in my usb flash drive it shuts down my computer with a blue screen and ive ruled everything out exept 2 things one: a partly fried motherboard or i suck at cleaning out the usb area im more for the partly fried motherboard because i play games that take alot outta my computer and my computer was used before i got it( you dont wanna know what was on it before) but im about ready to throw it out the window

its a compaq evo d510 convertable minitower and other parts that dont work are the floppy drive (person shoved quarters in it and my network connection but luckily from my old computer i had a ethernet card so im having to use that

Are the USB ports motherboard mounted or case mounted? If they are case mounted are you sure that the connectors are linked to the correct ports on the motherboard? What does the BSOD say?

Then unless any other members have any ideas then I would say that your USB drives are dead. I have known it to happen from time to time. Sorry I couldn't be of more help so happy solution hunting.

Wait is it only with this USB device? Or do you receive intermittent problems with other devices?

I would definatly say that the USB ports have worn out then. You may have to buy a PCI USB adapter card.
