February monthly poll
« on: February 02, 2009, 01:27:04 AM »
For the month of February we thought it would be interesting to see what antivirus protection you're using, if any. Feel free to discuss what you do or don't like about it, why you chose it, past good / bad experiences with other antivirus scanners you've used, etc.

Note: There a probably an additional dozen other Antivirus developers/programs that are not in this list. Because the list was getting really long I decided to post what I believe to be the top most used programs. I didn't have any *scientific* method of determining this list. Just all based off what I see on the forums and site. :)

All past monthly polls and results can also be found on the Computer Hope poll page.

I use Kaspersky Antivirus.
I purchased it at a discounted price and haven't been disappointed with it at all.
Its settings are very customizable to make it very strict with applications and processes (asking if you want this program to run or if you want this program to copy files ect...) or you can relax it a bit and use it as a normal user.
I am extreamly pleased with Kaspersky.
It doesn't take up many resources and it has various scanning modes and excellent malware protection.

The only downside that I can think of is, strangely enough, database updating takes up an incredible amount of my CPU usage. No idea why...

Right now I'm using AVG on the main computer.

I have a few computers. On the main secondary, I'm running Avira.
I have another box with Avast!
Then I have two, that are running Linux distros, with no AV software whatsoever. As I understand it, there are very few viruses that are written for Linux.

I did have the Norton virus for a while, but decided that it was not the greatest.

Avast and Avira are really good programs, but the user interface is lacking in ease of use. That's just my personal opinion.

AVG is the most well rounded and easy to use AV program. That is not to say that I've not had a a few problems out of it.

I don't really worry about viruses too much. I always back up all of my important data. I don't mind reinstalling my operating system from time to time.

I'm the first to vote "None".
If necessary I use AVG...I've tried Norton a long time ago, wasn't impressed.  NOD32 is my favourite antivirus, but I don't want to pay for it.  Avast  I wasn't too impressed with, but Antivir wasn't too bad when I tried it.
I don't see a need for antivirus, myself - I've been running without any real time protection at all for over a year, zero problems.

Done. Added the ability to vote for up to 5. You'll need to remove your vote first before applying multiple votes.

My all time favorite was AVG Free. Then switched over to McAfee and the present one in use is Avira. Satisfied with each. Not a single virus has entered my computer since long time.

    Cheers... :D

    Thanks, Nathan :)
Depending on a computer, I use Avast, Avira, and Comodo Internet Security (includes AV).
