Check the time in the Bios if it is corrent then your battery is fine. I think you need to aquire a new CD (preferbly XP) and do a format/fresh install.

when it posts (black screen with writing ect) press 'del' repeatedly then you will go into the blue bios screen. once there go into the first option called bios settings/features/options it should be in there. I dont think it is a flat battery tho.

Thanks, I'll have a look. I don't think its "seeing" the new drive even though its set to master and the CD to slave (same ribbon).

in the bios you can set your HDD to manual or auto (not sure what section). set it to auto.

Sorted. Put a new ribbon straight from the board to the drive, with a separate one for the CD. Thanks again.
