    problem with ie7
    « on: February 15, 2009, 11:25:44 PM »
please help a newbie - I am using xp home ie7.  A few days ago I notieced I was being redirected when clicking a link, became concerned - tried to go to windows update and either page cannot be displayed or another bogus web page appears.  Ran full scans with mcafee & windows defender.  Have rebooted & unplugged (broadband) connection.  Ran windows help - said it could not ping my default gateway.  Have also noticed an excalmation next to phishing filter in security under advanced tab in internet options.  thx in advanced for any help!

Was able to install and run ccleaner per instructions.  At step 3 when I tried to download SAS "page could not be displayed"  Tried the alternative link you listed to manually download and unzip - Have an icon for sasdefinit but the program won't run.

It happens with SAS on infected computer. Proceed to Malwarebytes.

Not sure if my last post was clear.  Proceded with malwatebytes - found and resolved 51 infected items.   Per your procedure, updated java, installed hijack this.  Got confused on where to go to rename hijack this.exe to sniper.exe.  Not wanting to create any extra work for you, but, if you can clarify this step  will gladly finish steps and post logs, if they are of any use to you.  At this point browser is fixed - no redirects.  It is hard to know who to trust out there, If there is any thing a lay person can do to insure this great web site (ch rules the universe!) lives on please let me know.  Thanks again from one who knows enough to know they dont know.

Renaming is not completely necessary. ;)

I have been having a different problem with ie7 randomly freezing for no apparent reason, but never a problem with redirects.  Strange
