USB Help/Problems
« on: April 01, 2009, 02:22:49 PM »
Ok, thanks to a virus, I had to format/reinstall Windows XP Pro. Got all the service packs updated, and finished. I didn't even have time to back up anything at all, except for a small collection of files on my 1 GB Lexar USB Jumpdrive.

Now, the problem I'm having is it will not recognize the jump drive as a jump drive. Every time I plug it in, it kicks back "Local Drive: D" (the other two drives are C:\ the main, and I: the restore drive, the optional ones are Removable Disk E, F, G and H, and the DVD and CD Drives). Looking under properties when plugged in, it lists 990 MB, 28 MB used.

I've tried to install the drivers, and it took a long while before it even recognized the USB stick (the whole "This is not a HI-Speed connection problem), but now, even on other PCs, it kicks back that the USB stick is a local drive. Any help, please? I can stand having to rebuild the files I had on the PC, but the USB stick had some stuff I was working on.

Can you access the flash drive when it is listed as a local drive?

I had a really old computer, and it takes about 30 secs for a flash drive to be called a removable disk.
