    Password for Windows 2000
    « on: May 02, 2009, 10:16:32 AM »
I had a Dell Latitude CPi given to me a couple of days ago. The guy said if I could get it to work I could have it. So the problem im having is that the fellow put a password on the administration account for Windows 2000 and now he doesn't remember it. He gave me some hints and I tried everything I can think of with no luck. When it boots up I can hit F8 and go to the selection screen, but I cannot get to any command prompt to try and run setup CDs. Unfortunately the computer won't recognize any CD I put in, I burned a copy of Utimate Boot CD but it won't run it.

Is there anything else I can try? Why won't it let me run any CDs, or go to the command prompt?

Re-install Windows...it should boot to a Win CD if you change the boot order in the BIOS...
Other than that we can't assist with circumventing passwords...sorry.

Ah yeah I didn't even think about the password thing. Man that sucks. I tried reinstalling windows but it won't read the disks. Im going to try a floppy from a friend later on that he's not using anymore, but with the CDs it won't let me. I can't change the boot order either. Im guessing because it's an administration password.

Thanks though, nice place you have here, bookmarked now. ^_^

If it's a BIOS password we're talking about that's a whole nuther can of worms.....

The password is just for Windows 2000. Its for the administration account. But in the BIOS it won't let me change the boot order, or anything else really with out the admin password.

Then take it to a Dell Service Center where they can replace the EEPROM...
You will need to provide Proof of Ownership for the machine.
