How do I run a restore with a DVD?

I am running Vista Home Basic  32 bit on an E Machine.  I ran a backup onto a DVD.  The DVD is: DVD + R.  I know it worked correctly because when I go to start - computer - the message is:  DVD RW Drive (E:) BOB-PC  5/16/2009  12:35 PM Disk 1.  Now I want to run a restore.  Without going into details of all the things I have tried, let us say I can't get it to ask for the DVD.  Now that I have the DVD how do I run a restore?  Thanks   Bob

I have tried several things but all I get is an error message that says " an unspecified error occurred".  I don't have time this afternoon to try other things so I am dropping the question for now.  When I have time I may ask for advise again.  Thank you.   Bob
