Are you now using Windows 7 RC for free?
« on: May 20, 2009, 08:03:29 PM »
I got it and am going to upgrade this machine to dual boot XP and Windows 7 RC.
So far it looks pretty good. But already I am tired of the fish that does not move.
What about you?

I use Windows 7 RC to. I really enjoy it! And it's free! Well in 2010 it will shut off every two hours.  :P

I love how it looks like Vista & Works like XP!

    It's AWESOME!

haven't tried it yet. I like my vista laptop as it is, but I might buy Windows 7 when it comes out, delete my XP partitions (never use them) and install windows 7 alongside Vista.

      Off Topic.....
Yes I also like it and like in any other MS OS, you can change the desktop wall-paper.

interesting how they have to Windows Se7en logo like that with the 7 in the middle, kinda looks like one of the old Mac OS logos...

But no I have not used Windows 7, even though I've heard that everyone like the beta, I would like to wait until its officially released and see how it is(MS might change it or add-on a lot of crapware to it, but that is usual for a new computer, has a lot of trialware)

Well, that's the sheer beauty of the RC1.............NO CRAPWARE included.
And, you can run it for almost a year for FREE.

It's the manufacturer's, not MS, that add the crapware.

Thanks for the correction, usually say at Best Buy with all the computers set up for show; If you look on the desktop, they usually have all the crapware.

I don't think this applies to computers you buy direct from the manufacturer(of course if the OS is pre-installed on there, there probably is some crapware)

          But back on topic...

            I have spotted a problem...

Windows 7 has some Crapware, and yet didn't come with some ineedthisware! It doesn't include Windows Movie Maker! What is this? A conspiracy? Just Kidding... but really it doesn't include WMM.

yes it does. And M$ is only really kicking off the software so you have to download them yourself. Still it's free if you have windows 7 and it's all cuz people were whining that M$ is a monopoly cuz of IE. windows media player and all the other stuff that M$ includes.

But really, how can you surf the internet without IE already being there on a windows machine?

I am using windows 7 RC right now, pretty good. Maybe I'll get windows 7 RTM, you supposedly can upgrade from RC to RTM with a little change of numbers in a install check file.

the sad thing is that I still dont have my copy yet, I'm like at 30% but with the mass being off the other day kind of cut into the download time.  Not sure if I will be able to get it till this weekend but I got other matters.

That's why it seems everyone is starting to hate MS more now as far as their products, they have software for almost every use from Anti-Virus(Retarded Windows Defender), MS Office, etc etc...

If they didn't make software for every single application then you would think that Windows wouldn't have as much security issues.

There is another expiration date you need to keep in mind: Windows 7 RC will expire on 6/1/2010, and you’ll need to either upgrade to the final release of Windows 7 or a prior version of Windows before then. (We‘ll send you another reminder as this date approaches.)

Thanks again for your interest in Windows 7 and for your help in finishing this product!

I think you're mixing it up. August 2009 is for the beta of windows 7, what i listed is for the windows 7 RC.

Don't argue with the microsoft guys, just check out what they say here: http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/Windows-7/download.aspx

March 1st is the date on which the 2 hr rebooting will start in effect

June !st is when the RC expires so you either use it in restricted mod or you get yourself another non expiring o.s. working

so you think i should get the win 7 RTM when it comes out (microsoft said it would be a good holiday gift this year for the pc inclined)? I got win vista 32 bit home premium on my pc right now.

Win 7 RC that I tried was on a friend's laptop when I borrowed it to send a quick email when I was at his apartment.

I've been running Win7 for about 4 to 5 months now...i'd have to say they may just have gotten it right this time....
However as far as purchasing it i won't be the first in line. I usually wait at least 6 months to buy a newly released OS.

An official version of Windows from MS does not install any extraneous crud so i don't have an idea why that App would be suggested...

June !st is when the RC expires so you either use it in restricted mod or you get yourself another non expiring o.s. working

Just recieved this from MS TechNet...thought you'ld enjoy it:

                            Special Beta Edition -- Correction

Because you signed up to test the Windows 7 Beta, we recently sent you mail about the expiration dates for the Beta and Release Candidate. Unfortunately, we made a mistake.

We said the Beta would start shutting down every two hours on June 1, 2009. The correct date is July 1, 2009.

The rest of the dates in the mail were correct. Here’s a quick summary:
                            Version:

Starts shutting down every two hours:

                            Expires:
                            Beta

                            July 1, 2009

Well like all MS software it will take people like us to decide if its good or not. It will take time unlike Macs that have seemingly no issues. I have not read the full thread because I was busy... just my own comment.

mac users never complain of "issues" if they have problems, they make up some convoluted logic to justify it and declare it to be superior UI design.

Well to be fair BC Mac users feel them selves as a higher breed than us but unfortunately lacking in real knowledge. But to be fair they experience less problems and that makes them less knowledgable.

does it mean that M$ would just start a new line of windows II that would just be a continuation of windows and since bill gates already knows how he got the windows to be so popular in the beginning at least, he'd just do it all over again.

It doesn't mean anything. It's just mindless babble, alongside a use of "subsidize" which is even more meaningless, because I'm pretty sure MS won't be getting any public funds anytime soon.

do you as a registered beta tester gonna be getting windows 7 for free for helping out M$? They gave away free vista's to those helpful guys last time, so I heard.
No, this taken from the Windows 7 FAQ at microsoft.com:

Person: "Will I get a free copy of Windows 7 once it's released for volunteering to test the Windows 7 RC?"

                                            Microsoft: "Sorry, no."

do you have any windows programs or software you are using right now? There's WINE for linux but it's still not as good as the official windows. That's the probably the biggest thing you should think of.

I would DLoad and run the "live" version first...it runs from the CD and makes no changes to your system...
That way you can see if it picks up all your hardware without installing it.

Windows 7 RC Tester.  Working on it.  Your monitor says etchasketch on the side!

If I fall who is there to pick me up now.  I stand alone but I stand as the gaurdian for whom I wish to protect.  The sound of my blade utters my name as you fall.  For I shall not move.  For those that forsake the very people are wosres
