    help with my computer!!!
    « on: May 26, 2009, 06:13:38 PM »
okay, i got a cannot find bootmgr message at bootup one day... I fixed that, then intalled all my drivers and stuff. then when the computer rebooted a couple times I got this message when i logged on that said

"To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program...
NAME: Boot acceptance Application for Registry,
PUBLISHER: Microsoft Corporation." What do I do now?

So i was talking to a guy on a different website and he said try taking out the memory sticks inside the computer... so I did that, put them back in and then tried to turn the computer on. and guess what, the computer will not turn on??? I am so pissed cause I dontknow how to fix it.  any suggestions???

At what point does the message appear?
Are you able to boot all the way to Windows?
Did it just start to happen?
    Did you try Safe Mode?
    Did you try system restore?

      okay this is what happened.

I was told to try taking out the memory sticks when that message came up (it just happened one day after I reformatted and reinstalled windows xp) and I could see anything on my desktop. so when i went ctrl alt delete to get my icons to pop up, that wouldnt work either. so I took out my memory sticks, put them back in, and then I plugged my computer back in and NOTHING happened. Wouldnt turn on or do anything?

Make sure the RAM is seated fully...
Then try it with only 1 stick in the slot closest to the CPU.

okay! it finally turned on, turns out it was just the power cord lol.

okay but now to the first problem... I get an error after i log in that says

"To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program...
NAME: Boot acceptance Application for Registry,
          PUBLISHER: Microsoft Corporation."

o what do I do there? cause i cant get on to turn it off or anything it pops up right when i click on my name to log in, and you can see the desktop but with no icons

          You just installed XP right?
If I were you I would just wipe it out again and start over.
Did you use a real windows CD or a copy?
Did you get any errors while installing?

Can you get to Windows, or you're stuck at that message?

              Yes.
Forget about Nortons whether you paid for it or not.
AVG and Avast both have FREEE A/V apps...

                Wait a minute. You said:
okay i reinstalled windows xp, and no longer am i getting that boot error
If you just wiped it out, it should not have any viruses. It is most likely the network driver that is causing the problem. The only problem with that logic is that you also said:
okay now i downloaded Avast Antivirus
So which is it? How did you download Avast?
Smorgan21, do us a favor and click Start then Run and type in devmgmt.msc and press enter. This will take you to device manager. Do you see any yellow quesion marks or exclamation points?
