You can use a paper clip to open it.

He was in chat and said he tried that...we referred him to a tech...or to just replace the drive.

If the paperclip trick doesn't work, it's time to prise the tray open with a screwdriver.  The only way the paperclip trick is going to fail is if the drive mechanism's broken - time for a new drive, methinks.

Maybe the paperclip was inserted into the wrong hole?
Only able to visit the forums sporadically, sorry.

Theres more then one hole on a dvd drive thats about the size of a paper clip?  But ya time for a new drive.  They are really easy to install your self.  You should be able to do it in about 10 minutes.  Now whats the model of your computer? If you tell me then I can help you select a new dvd drive for you. They are fairly cheap.  You can get one for around $25
