    war3.exe problem
    « on: May 31, 2009, 09:33:43 PM »
Every time I start frozen throne, it would always tell me these:

The application has encountered a critical error.

    FATAL ERROR!

    program: C:\program file\warcraft iii\war3.exe
    Exception: 0xC0000005 (ACCESS VIOLATION) at 001B: 00000000

The instruction at '0x00000000' referenced memory at '0x00000000'
The memory could not be 'read'.

Press OK to terminate the program

Anyone knows how to solve the problem? Help would be much appreciated :-)

    another thing though ....

first try to download the latest update

    http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=20673

if you updated and it still doesn't work please download this registry file: http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/war3/other/war3.reg (and just double click it and if it ask if you really want to add the info from the reg file to the registry, just say yes)

and if it still doesn't work try to update the drivers of your video card

Looks like a RAM problem might have to get new RAM, or you could try using the OpenGL mode. To do this run WC3 with the OpenGL parameter, however this may cause a couple of side-effects - for example the textures usually mess up when you minimize the game

Where does he say he plays off a friends thumb drive?

he sent me a PM saying that he got the warcraft 3 game off his friend's thumb drive. Why he doesn't post here I don't understand, but OP needs to respond if he still wants help with his problem.

That's maybe why its has this error, because it is trying to launch war3.exe from the C Drive and maybe can't find it or encountering some other error. He should try installing it on his C drive.

It's running from C:.... but it sounds like it got copied.

    C:\program file\warcraft iii\war3.exe

"C:\program file" as opposed to Program files.

Sounds like they tried to copy the war3.exe file from a friends PC and run the game from their PC. with just the executable.

I got the game from my friends thumbdrive as in I go copy and paste his file into my computer. But when I run it on the thumbdrive on one of the computer, it run smoothly but not on the one I'm using now. So it can't be the thumbdrive or the files problem. And I used to be able to play this game previously on this computer.

Perhaps if you go purchase the game legitimately and use the CD, it will work fine.

Ya but I find it unnecessary as I think the problem can be fixed in other ways which is the reason why I'm posting it on this website's forum.

you've got to be kidding me.

You don't own the game. go buy it. It WON'T WORK OTHERWISE.

it might work, but if you are to be playing multiplayer, it most likely won't work.
