    Windows 95 installation
    « on: June 05, 2009, 10:14:53 PM »
Trying to load Windows 95 in a new in the box Compaq LTE 5400.(oldie from an estate sale.))
Run into the Disk-Cache Utility error.
Followed the fix instructions  found on here.
I went through the partition's delete three times, formats etc.
Clicked "NO" for the large disk option
Keeps putting the utility back in.

I do not have a 95 startup disk so used a 98 version of startup.
Could this be the reason this is happening.?

    Any advice please.

    Thanks

Further to the above message I used the FDISK command to delete all the partitions
on the PC, found a Windows 95 Startup disk file, made a disk, used it to reboot, was able to get started loading the first 2 disks, then run into an  "SU-0013 error."

(I am trying to load from the 14 disk floppy drive Windows 95 package.)
I do not have a CD-Rom drive, and am still looking for one.

Here is what "Display Partition Information" shows.
      C:1      A     PRI DOS     1286 Mbytes     UNKNOWN      100% USAGE

Can anyone steer me on what I need to do now.?
P.S. I did read the fix for the error but I am somewhat confused now.

      Thanks

After running FDisk did you run format ? ?

format C: /u is the command.

Yes I did do a format but not with the "u".
Further to last message I am in worse trouble now.
I tried going through the same procedure another time
just to make sure I did it right.
I did something wrong because FDISK will not allow me to use
the Delete and Create Partition options, now.
Tells me there are 2 drives and no partitions.
I believe it happened when I was trying to create a partition
and I hit the wrong number and enter.
Is there a procedure to completely wipe the drive, and start over
        with the boot disk.

        Thanks

          Thanks for the reply.
          I found the program.
I am just not literate enough to understand how to use it.

There's lots of help available on the GParted site.  In short, you just click on the partitions that will be displayed by GParted and hit "delete".  You may then repeat your installation from the start.
