Yeah, I use to have mine setup to go blank, now I  just close it when I leave and off to sleep it goes. Works good that way, have to get past the hardware boot password and the logon software password.

no screensaver for me. Just a blanked out screen at intervals via the power save options. They say screensavers reduce LCD life, I don't know. But sure it did reduce CRT screenshot burn-ins.  :)

I have an LCD monitor that hasn't been turned off in over 16 months.  Screen savers won't shorten its life.

I know that red hat has it built in.  Its not hard to make a bat matrix but screensaver is differnt.  Its not so demanding like it was when we had CRT's.
Windows 7 RC Tester.  Working on it.  Your monitor says etchasketch on the side!

The last monitors known to burn-in were the monochrome displays.

colour monitors could be burned in too- but the only instance I've seen of that was a computer in a school lab that was at the "It is now safe to shutdown your computer" screen for 2 months. the monitor was still usable, but you could make out the words if you squinted enough.

BC is right, all CRT displays could suffer burn in.  JVC had a line of digital CRT scanning monitors back in the 90's that couldn't however, they were professional level and used in the AV industry, usually editing houses.  They were tremendously expensive and never caught on for that reason.

example - they started at roughly $10,000

thats steep, todays dont suffer from that as badly though.  However a burn in isnt so bad we still use them till there gone.

my point was- it took 2 months for it to burn in, and it was STILL almost invisible.

How often do you leave the same display on your screen for 2 months?
