    Free Windows Registry Cleaner 1.1.0

I use the program above and I think I deleted something that I shouldn't have and in my frustration I deleted the registry program so I cannot undo the changes.  Now I can't access anything on my desk top, it prompts me to open with another program then it changes all the programs on my desk top to what I opened with.  For example my documents folder is named %thisdirname%.  I can't even access my system restore. How can I fix without rebooting.  Thank you for any help.

If you can access the RUN dialog (windows key + R) type

    %SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

This should allow you to get into system restore to restore things.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

    mikey909,

If the System Restore does not work, the installation  CD  should have a repair option.

    or

Reinstall windows.  You might lose  personal data.  Back up if possible.

    Good Luck

It's says it cannot find the above dialog.  I can't save the into the floppy drive. So my only option is to save what ever I can to cd and reinstall my windows.

Now what is the best way to clean and reinstall, I have the cd but cannot find the boot disc.

Windows ME, I just downloaded a boot disk to floppy. So that step is done.

I know alot of people are not using windows me anymore but I use it to keep in my garage to watch movie and play music, and don't know why I tried to clean the registry.  Now the one that is messed up is no big deal but here is a couple of questions.

Now my friend gave me a tower with xp and a flat screen monitor  but since it was from his office that closed he does not know the pass to log on anymore.  Now can I clean the hard drive and install windows me because I just want it for the hard drive space it has to be bigger than the current one with 7 gigs.  Also is there a place I can download a driver to run the minitor since it ask for it.

That computer may have recovery partition.
What brand, and model is it?

I suggest that in the future you avoid these like the plague.  They usually cause a lot more problems than they ever manage to fix.

I backed up all the stuff I need and made the me boot disc. But now I can't open .exe files. When I put the boot disc in and restart I get this "non-system disk or disk error replace and strike any key when ready."  I just want my computer back to normal.  Please advise me.

The floppy that you used to make the boot disk may be bad.  Can you try a different floppy?
Also in the BIOS did you set it to boot from floppy first?
Check to make sure that the floppy disk is enabled in the BIOS as well.

You could also check the floppy drive in another computer to make sure that the FDD didn't fail.

It was an brand new disk I bought today.

I don't know how get into bios.

The major problem is when I try to open anything I get prompted with open with this program and when I do all my desk top icons turn into the same thing.

I am not worried about losing any data. I just want to start over.

Is there a good site for a boot disk?

Even brand new disks can be bad, or it could be your FDD(Floppy Disk Drive).  They are notorious for failing and not giving any indications.

To get into the BIOS hold down the F2 button or Delete key, you may need to try both.

I'll find you a link to an ME boot disk.
