Here is a good place for boot disks, it downloads as a *.exe. just run the file with a floppy in a working FDD.

I should've mentioned that, go OEM.

When into BIOS and the primary is floppy.  Then put the boot disk and statred again. I got the same error.

"non-system disk or disk error replace and strike any key when ready."

Don't know what else to do.

The FDD is dead, you'll need to replace it.  Don't worry, they're dirt cheap, as long as you can find a local store that sells them anyway.

Don't understand how the fdd can be dead when I can save and open floppy's.

Is there a way to reboot using only the cd.

Becasuse I can't run any .exe files. My comp won't open it since the registry cleaner wiped alot of stuff off.

Oh okay, if you can read and save then it's fine.  I had misunderstood you.  ME will only boot from the installation CD if the CD-ROM drive, and BIOS will support this.  Do you know anyone with a machine that has a working FDD in it?

Well when I first bought it from dell it did not come with a boot disk, I just spent 20 minutes looking for it. It came with a windows me install cd and bunch of other program cd's. All I had to do is install each cd to my comp.  Now can I switch the first to cd instead of floppy in the bios screen and restart with the cd in or not.

If all else fails I guess I spend 400 bucks for a new comp or rebuild another tower my friend gave me when his work closed down.  Sorry about all the questions not to good with computers.

Why do you ask about the working floppy?

If your BIOS supports it, try it, that would sure save you a lot of grief.

ok changing cd to #1 and floppy #2 works but I encountered a problem.

            #  Select option #1 - Start the computer with CD-ROM support.
            # After a minute or so, you will see "A:>_".
            # Type "fdisk" and press Enter.
            # If asked to enable large disk support, select Y for Yes.
            # Select Option #1 - Create DOS partition or Logical DOS Drive.
            # Select Option #1 - Create Primary DOS Partition.

After the last option I get a dos partiton or logical dos drive already exists. How do I continue after that.

You need to delete the old partition to make a new one.

But I have a major problem, when I start up my comp I cannot load up windows without mt me disk.

I get two choice boot from cd or boot from hard drive, how can I fix this.

Did you reset what your primary boot device is in the BIOS?

Did you reset what your primary boot device is in the BIOS?

When I start my computer without my Win ME install cd I get :

Invalid Boot Diskette, Insert Boot Diskette In A:

When I start my computer with my Win ME install cd I get :

                1. Boot From Hard Disk
                2. Boot From CD

With a count down timer, and if I do not pick any of the two options above it loads normally after the count down.

                BIOS

Originally I believe it was floppy, hard drive, cd, and the fourth not used.

When I reinstalled I changed it to cd, not sure if I put floppy or hard drive second, but the fourth not used.

When everything was reinstalled I put back to original setting floppy, hard, cd, and not used.

Now it's really no big deal because once it gets to my desk top I can take out my me cd and runs fine.  It's just a bother to keep the cd in the drive or have to have the cd to use my comp.  But any way thanks for all the help.

Set it for HDD to be the first boot device, if you want put the CD second or the FDD.
Let us know how that works for you.
