If I had $200 yes.  I think I will wait a couple months to see if the price goes down

I voted "Maybe".
Currently there's no advantage to persuade me to upgrade any of my OSes, but if Windows 7 has something compelling I'll be buying it.

I would have chosen 'Depending on the situation'.

If I needed a new computer and XP wasn't available, I would get Seven. Otherwise, XP. I refuse to get Vista.

Well, it does have "XP Mode".

Unfortunately not an advantage for me as I already have XP and VMWare for any other OSes I need to emulate.

Personally i do like the idea of XP mode. It's actually slipstreamed into the OS so it's much better using VMWare or something.

I see no option for myself.
I'd vote: Maybe, by buying new computer.
I'm happy with Vista, so I won't upgrade. If I buy a new computer, it'll be with Win 7.

I'll tell you why.
Carbon is a very young man, so obviously he doesn't have much money to buy Vista.
I told him, that as soon, as I'll get gift certificates from compruler, I'll help him out.
But....I never got those certificates.
So, it's all compruler's fault ;D

True, his profile says he's under 16 (a bit young for a Moderator).
Then again, i'm not too much older than that...

This did not happen with Vista so don't hold your breath...
If you want it the pre-buy offers will save you over $100.00 US so they are the best option...
But time for thos is running out so do some research if you do oplan on upgrading.

This whole price issue doesn't make sense to me.
Talking about an average computer user...
I just took a quick look at today's paper, and I can see brand new Lenovo desktop at Fry's: dual core Intel, 4GB of RAM, 500GB HD, Vista Home Premium - $380

Get this: people sell laptops with the following specs on ebay for $300!  ::)
80 GB HDD, 1.3 Ghz Celeron, 256 MB RAM, CD reader, 2 USB

Are some people dumb enough to pay $300 for this?
Well, i guess they must be....

Not true at all.

It may shake out as the best out of Redmond since Win2k...which would put it in my opinion in pretty good company.

So that means you liked most of windows vista's user interface to begin with.... LOL

But I wish Vista taskbar could be transparent like win 7 is... that's all....

err, I meant have the real win 7 taskbar ported back to windows vista, although with windows vista's quick launch bar still in place, not just a transparency that I know you can do with a third party tool. (in win 7, you have to edit the taskbar a little more than necessary to get to that quicklaunch toolbar).

That's the only thing I feel windows vista was lacking.  :P

Layered windows have been in windows since w2K...

but the "glass" type transparency is pretty neat. Too bad I feel dirty taking a performance hit for fancy desktop graphics. (unreasonable, kind of)

Yes, that's called windows 98.

I have my Vista laptop set to Classic, It runs Aero Glass beautifully; I had a good reason to set it to classic. I keep forgetting it though.

The main thing holding me back from Vista and therefore Windows 7 is the interface.
I find it very difficult to use and I can't get used to it.
The whole Aero scheme is awful, and the Classic theme looks just as bad.  Windows 7 apparently doesn't have the classic Start menu either, so I don't think I'll be purchasing it.

then why are we still useing RC?  Is it so that the final out will be what it should or so that it can be updated to how it should be?  I dont personally get new os but if I come acrossed the chance or if we get a copy.  I personally could get vista for cheap but its a rather do I want it an such.

the main one that pops out, is the recycle bin, which is like that only in 2000 (and ME, I suppose, which I've never really used).

Only reason I have plus is it's on my windows 98SE CD.

Yes the recycle bin was the major change.
Yeah, i only used ME as a kid for 2-3 months. All it did was crash.

PLUS! wasn't really that great, at least I would never have bought it...

Now, I have transferred all the icons from XP to my Windows 98 laptop...

had to make some tweaks because of the alpha.

Here's a little tidbit- the desktop, in all versions since windows 95, is actually a Listview, the very same thing used to view files in explorer windows and so forth!

It's simply set to have a transparent background and forced into Icon mode.

One could make a small app that acquires the handle to this Listview control and sends it a message that changes it's View mode... that could make for some wacky desktops...
