I need a good FREE spam filter. For some reason, I am getting so many spam e-mails lately. I downloaded Spam Fighter, but it was only good for a month, now I have to get rid of it.

Not entirely true. The advanced features will go away after a month unless you buy the license but the basic features, which is all you need, are free for home use for life.

SpamFighter is one of the best.

Yes, but the thingy that wants you to buy it pops up in my face continually, I don't want that.

It is a good program, but they want me to buy it, so I have to deal with that all the time. I wouldn't mind buying it if it were a one time buy, but you have to buy it every year...

Have you checked in the settings for a way to turn that off? I haven't used it in a while so maybe they have added that but it shouldn't keep happening. All that should happen with the free version is it will tag the bottom of each of your outgoing e-mails with a "Protected by SpamFighter" footer. You might try asking in their forums. http://community.spamfighter.com/forums/

Or switch to another good free antispam tool. http://www.mailwasher.net/

You can't turn it off, it is their way of getting you to buy it. If there was a way to turn it off, then they would just be giving away a free spam filter. That is not their goal. It is working well, but that pop up is soooo annoying.

I found the registry key it runs from.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Features\F680B02FB4BF8874AA2CFABA3A87DAE1]
"BuySPAMfighter"="Common"

Removing the key and it should stop popping up.

Go to Start > Run and type notepad.exe then click OK

Copy and paste the below into Notepad and save as fixme.reg to Your Desktop

Code: [Select]

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Features\F680B02FB4BF8874AA2CFABA3A87DAE1]
"BuySPAMfighter"=-
"ProductName"=-

Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click it. Answer Yes when prompted to merge with the Registry.

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it did not work.

Delete the fixme.reg from the Desktop.

Alrighty then, I did this and got the success message. I hope that stops this and does not stop the spam filter from doing it's job. I will let you know if I get anymore pop-ups.

It shouldn't interfere with it at all.

I kind of wondered if just disabling it would work. Let's remove the entire key instead of just disabling it.

I did the last thing you sent me, restarted the computer and as soon as I clicked on my OE, it popped up again... I don't think you can outsmart those people. They want me to buy Spam Fighter. It is just terribly annoying and I probably will have to end up uninstalling the whole program. It is working well, and hate to do that..

I have an idea, it usually works for me on different products, it won't END the problem.

Every time that pop-up appears it might get re-activated (making the pop-up appear again) when you click on the option that lets you keep using your computer. The thing you should try is, let the pop-up show once, but don't click on it, just drag that window down to a corner where it doesn't disturb you, it won't appear again until you clicked on the option that allows you to continue using that free trial of their services.

I hope that you can still use the program with the pop-up activated.

Reporting back. I tried pulling that down to below my task bar, and it works. I don't get the pop-up's because it is still open... YAAAAAAYYYYY!!! I guess if one thing doesn't work, then try something else lol... So far this is working.
