Yea I've been using speed fan for a whil now. Nvidia 6600 runs hot according to Nvidia website and 60-70c idle can be normal but mine is usualy 60-65 even on load.

Also the 512 chip was giving me problems again and was plenty cool. But it seems like something else to me.

When I got the computer it had two 256mb sticks of ram. I bought a new stick of 1gb Patriot ram and had all kinds of problems. I returned it and got another and it worked well for several months until I purchased the second 1gb Kinston ram. At this point the Patriot ram tested bad so I exchanged it for 1gb Kinston ram. With my GFX card being 128mb it seems to put my computer over the 2gb ram limit and lots of problems. So I swapped my parents computer one of my 1gb and took their 512mb Kingston that is not more than 1 year old.

The board is kinda a bad design because the gfx card and the cpu are both very close to the ram. AGP slot being at the top.

It ran somewhat fine for a few months with 1gb and 512mb. Can this sustained temperature of 110F ruin the ram?

My board is saposed to take 2gb and the problems always seem to come using more than 1gb. Is there a setting or jumper somewhere that could be set wrong?

Thanks man I know I am long winded :p

I wouldn't worry about video card at 60C something, but something else is too warm.
SpeedFan is not always easy to read, but I suspect Temp2 is your CPU.
Let's double check.

Download, and install Everest Ultimate Edition 4.6: http://www.lavalys.com:8081/everestultimate460.exe
Enter following registration code (Help>Enter product key) to make it fully functional:
RHGJE-54X47-HML9C-V498I-UUMVI
(it's all legal, the above version has been recently offered as a free download)
Expand Computer, click on Sensor
What info do we have there?

I'll try the software but I just found out through bios that temp2 is cpu I thought cpu was temp1. The AMD XP 3000+ Has a high heat tolerance like 85c and I see lots of people runing 50-55. Mine is usualy 45 but I have been fooling around with fans and its summer time.

What is exact model of that Athlon (CPU-Z: http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php)?
I don't see any Athlon 3000 max temp higher than 70C.

Its a AMD Athlon XP 3000+

*censored* if I cant find the site now from AMD. and I cant recall exactly except mine has higher tolerance than all or most. I know its not less than 70c. Alot of forums are saying 85c for all XP models.

I've never seen any desktop processor max temp at 85C.
If you look here: http://users.erols.com/chare/elec.htm, most desktop CPUs max temps don't exceed 70C, with only few exemptions, like Athlon 64 X2 at 78C. That's the highest.

heh, forgot my internet cut out trying to post reply and here I was waiting :p

My computer is a PC. I had to replace the thermal past as I cleaned the heat sink and had to re-use what was there for a day or so. Could have contributed to the higher temps also trying to get fans in best pattern. I think I got it though the systems only been on for 10 mins.
