audible e-mail notifications not working

have Windows XP Professional
Sound scheme is turned on yet I receive no audible notification when an e mail is received!
(speakers are working)
Provider is Verizon (DSL) w/Verizon webmail
and use Internet Explorer
any suggestions?        Tony Z III

Go to System Sounds>New Mail Notification, set the sound to "None".
Click OK.
Restart computer.
Go back to System Sounds, and set New Mail Notification back to "new_mail.wav".
Click Test. Do you hear any sound?

Please take a look at the following page:  http://www.verizon.net/micro/webmail/help/webmail_help.htm

Scroll down to the Preferences section.  It tells you how to enable your sound for Verizon's Webmail.

Verizon's Webmail is also flash-based.  Hopefully, you have the latest plugin for your browser.

You may also want to check to see if you have sounds enabled in your browser by going to Tools/Internet Options, then clicking the Advanced tab.  Scroll down to Multimedia to see if Play sounds in web pages is ticked...if not, check it...save your settings and then let us know if this worked...or not.

I guess we'll have to wait and see what the OP is referring to...
