computer wont start gateway 310s

computer tries to start but shuts off then sometimes with try and try and try to start im mechanically inclined but dont know much lost my job and gotta try myself help

Can you tell us more information about your computer? And also, can you tell us, when you turn it on, at what point does it shut down.

The computer was manufactured in 03 has all oem parts and it shuts off before or as it sends signal to the monitor to come out of stand by mode I tried turning it on a few times quickly and at one point the gateway logo appeared and it started to load but shut down  windows xp I think from what I've read it has the thrasher motherboard
