Windows 2000 need InternetExplorer 7
« on: August 09, 2009, 07:01:23 AM »
I have an older Sony laptop that I had to reformat with Windows 2000.
W 2000 comes with IE 6 included
To use the USB Linksys wireless adapter I need Explorer 7 which I can't find
When I search for IE7 all I can find is IE8 which W2000 will not run
Please help
Thanks

Richab

You can get IE 7 here: http://filehippo.com/download_internet_explorer_xp/3282/

But it is not compatible with Windows 2000. It may be with a bunch of hacks that I don't know about, but not otherwise.

Second thought: you could try it on 2000, it didn't work for me but it may for you.
Just make sure you have SP4.

no, internet explorer 7 will not run in windows 2000. IE7 is the default browser in Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 and you can upgrade  for Internet Explorer 6 to the IE7 in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.

Read this IEBlog, which confirms that IE7 will not work in windows 2000.

That's what I thought. You can't get IE 7 to work on 2000.

If your adapter says it's Windows 2000 compatible then there has to be some way to work it on IE 6.

Richab, what is the model of this USB Linksys wireless adapter you're attempting to use?

what does the adapter have to do with the browser being used, is probably the main question.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

IE7 will not work with 2k.  You will have to use a differnt browser I know that youtube is the same way.  That its going to stop supporting 6

Which is the most retarded thing ever. Many people still use IE 6. All the 98, ME, 2000 users use 6 or below. And many XP users still do. I talk to many in my town who use XP with IE 6 and have never even heard of tabbed browsing.

True. I only uninstall 2K a month or 2 ago. My PC did not meet requirements for anything newer then Vista.

And MS should have made IE 7 2000 compatible, instead of purposely not compatible.
Making it 2000 compatible would not have taken any work because it is the same as XP at the core. 2000 is NT 5.0 and XP is NT 5.1, this shows how similar they are. MS office 2007 could also be 2000 compatible with little or no extra work.

That what I hate about MS, instead of making it compatible they purposely make it incompatible so people buy an upgrade.

      I got IE7 running on Win2K...

Which still takes us back to this:

The adapter has to be OS specific...NOT browser specific...therein lies the issue.
However since he's been seemingly abducted we may never know.

      How, if I may ask?

I did hear there were some hacks to get it to work.

IE7 and IE8 do not work on Windows 2000.
Use a different browser like FireFox.

You can go through and make changes into the registry allowing you to get ie7 onto windows 2000, but imo, it's not worth the trouble and besides, that's ie7 was not meant to be working with 2000 anyway.  :P
