Win 98 fresh Install cant run in DOS mode

"This program cannot run in DOS mode" I get this when I type SETUP to install win98.. Help!!!!!!!!

I think maybe the setup.exe you are using is for running from within Windows, which is why you are getting the error message that it can't be run from DOS.

You could try the setup.exe in the \win98\ folder.

I completly formatted my hard drive and ran the boot disk and put windows starts here cd in and when I type SETUP at the e: it gives me that error.

I'm assuming that drive D: is a secondary hard drive / partition. You could still try typing 'D:SETUP'. Or you could try setting your CMOS to allow booting from the CD-ROM, and only have the CD inserted on boot. I think the Windows CD has boot disc capability.

Provide more info on the history of this machine what steps you have taken so far and info on the hardware involved...

They had re-formatted their drive. There is no C:\WIN98 directory.

The proper executable is SETUP.EXE. Trust me, I accidentially re-installed Windows once, and recently (yesterday) installed it again.

Oh. Well, I don't know it's directory structure. I have an OEM install with a C:\WINDOWS\Options\CABs folder.
