Facebook: Cookies are not enabled on your browser
    « on: August 19, 2009, 07:17:28 PM »
I've been working on the subject problem for more hours than I care to share.  However, it's still not working.  In addition, if I think I've solved the problem and try and log in to FB it will than give me a messsage that javascript is not enabled on my browser.  I don't understand any of this...I was able to log on and off yesterday without any "messages".  I did delete temporary cookies, however, I don't see how that would have any effect.  Anyway, please help, I would like to use FB.

    Thanks, for your time.

You get this message when you try to login?
Which browser? Internet Explorer or Firefox?

Sylvie , try a system restore to a restore point before the problem started.

If you're on IE 8, try tweaking the Advanced Privacy Settings in Tools.Internet Options. Click the Privacy tab, then select the Advanced button. I've set mine to accept all First Party cookies, and prompt for all third party cookies. Click OK/Apply.

Just to be sure, when you return to IE, dump your history and all related cookies/temporary internet files. You can even hit F5 after entering the facebook address to make sure your browser loads a fresh version of the page.

Note that all of the apps on Facebook (almost all?) use third party cookies, so you may be clicking allow/block on the resulting dialogs for awhile until you've hit everything hosted by Facebook.

BTW I got no response whatsoever from contacting Facebook outside of their automatic "thanks but no thanks" response.

                Good luck.

This has been solved already. ::)
Besides, it's about 2 months old.

                  I got a solution.

                  Press "start"
(if u're on Vista) Type "run" then press enter.
(if u're on XP) just click on "run".
                  Type "regedit" and press "Enter"
Navigate till you get to Domain in :

                  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains

Right click on Domains, and delete the whole folder.

                  Problem solved!

Only problem is, all your other restricted sites will now be gone from the restriction list. If you're using SpyBot, just open SpyBot and re-immunize, and they'll all come back. If you've added them manually and deleted the Domains folder before reading THIS, then u "went to New York". You'll have to add them manually, so if SpyBot didn't create that restriction list, u'll have to re-add them manually from the IE's Tools > Internet Options > Security > Restricted Sites (select it, then click on "Sites" right below it) then add whatever u want to add.

                  Good luck!

                  1) The problem was already resolved
                  2) This thread is from August

That's the problem... it wasn't resolved!

See, i since i had that problem, and i'd already tried all the suggested solutions (abt allowing cookies, bla bla bla) and it still wasn't working because Facebook had entered into the restricted section, PLUS Facebook was HIDDEN from the list in the restricted sites section (couldn't remove it from the list even if i wanted to)

so i had to do what my solution said to do.

if u google other forums' threads, they all suggest the same thing: change the privacy settings to let IE use cookies. But in most if not all cases, the people who were experiencing this problem already had their cookies enabled and the problem was/is with just Facebook.

I know the thread is 3 months old and it did warn me before i posted my reply, but since 3 months later i had problems with that cookie issue, then so do/will/have others. Why not have a solution ready for them?

They can try the "allow cookies" thing, and if that solves the problem for them, then good.
If not, then there's no other ways to solve the problem other than the one i just posted. -- none that i know of at least.

Or you SOLVE the problem by using the IE interface...

(for IE9) Go to Tools > Options > Privacy > Websites > check the list of websites.. probably Facebook is in this list with 'always block'
Select the site and click remove.
