removing garbage data created by a virus
    « on: October 07, 2009, 07:18:09 PM »
Okay, so I just finished removing a virus made by a friend of mine (he's one of those skiddie 1337 h4x0r types who decided to test his creation on my machine). It was quite a headache to say the least. The virus was created with a program called TeraBIT Virus Maker. What it did was fill up the hard drive gradually with what I would guess to be garbage data. I only have 4 gigs left. I really don't want to format, as I have quite a bit of important data on here. Is there anyway to locate and remove the garbage data? I already tried searching for recently created files, and nothing of interest showed up.

    Thanks in advance!

I would start by kicking your friend in the nuts.

        Already done ^_^
I'm just wondering how to fix the problems that currently exist.

I wish I could help you, but I already got my load of problems :P

          Good luck though.

EDIT : but cant your friend help you? He made the virus, no?

I wish it was that easy.
As I mentioned he's a script kiddie (skiddie), meaning his knowledge of computers is mainly in using pre-made programs to "hack" other people's computers. His coding leaves something to be desired (we're in the same C++ class). If anyone else has been affected by TeraBIT made viruses in the past, I'm just interested in where the data is stored, or how to remove it.

I've tried running anti-virus software, and I ran CCleaner, and I now how 6 gigs. I also located a number of suspicously named files that were all 25,600 kb and were all created on the same day. I deleted them, but i'm still not back up to where I was in terms of space. But I guess for now this will work. I'll probably back up my programs and files at some point and do a fresh install.

              Thanks for all the help!

oh, and post the three logs. Can't remember if it says that in the guide or not.
