New Computer Start-up problems

I just purchased a new Sony vgn-nw275f/b with Windows 7 Home Premium OS. 

I followed the quick start instructions and downloaded the Windows Updates as recommended.  Once I was prompted to restart the computer, over an hour ago now, I still have the message on my screen "Preparing to configure Windows...Do not turn off your computer".  How long should updating computer take? 

The OS is Windows 7 Home Premium.

It may take several minutes, depending on number of updates,  but not over an hour.
Bring it back to the store.
