No USB working?
« on: November 11, 2009, 05:45:25 PM »
I had Windows XP on my computer (specs on right) and switched back to 2000 a few days ago. I just noticed that my USB is not working but is was with XP. I don't know how to find out what motherboard I have (i know it's a VIA Apollo with I think USB 1.1). I've attached a snapshot of what Device Manager shows for USB support.

Can someone help me get my USB working?

"Everest Home" does not work on my PC. It starts to load and scan stuff and then freezes everything (mouse does not even move) at "Scanning PCI Devices". I've been waiting 30 and still no change.

Any other ideas?

That's odd, it's usually the other way around.

I don't see anything in my profile that would tell what board I have.
My profile is attached, take a look.

You never mentioned Win98...for that DLoad and run AIDA32...
This is why we thrive on details...

I saw Win2K and XP listed...

I get the exact same problem I have running everest on Windows 2K.
It freezes everything when it gets to "Scanning PCI Devices".

Why the change in OS?  If you had not made that change, you wouldn't be having this problem.  How about going back to XP?

My system specs are low for XP. Windows 2000 gives me way better performance.
I did consider switching back to XP but it is not something I really want to do. I've can't get this problem fixed then I may actually do that. But I know that there must be a solution to this problem.

In order to fix this you need to re-install your MBoard drivers...
In order to find your drivers you need to determine what MBoard is in there...

Since Everest won't run on that you've been given 2 other suggestions:

Belarc Advisor
AIDA 32

and a 3rd:
SIW  (System Info for Windows )

All these are FREE and at least 1 of them should work.
Now get busy.... ;D
