    can't connect to wireless

    Hi people,

    I cannot connect to the wireless network at my house. If I connect the router to my computer via a cable, I can use the internet. But if I connect via wireless, I am still able to access the configuration page of my router but just am unable to surf the web.

    I have checked the MAC addresses and its all set.

    What can be wrong?

    Computers at home are using windows XP/Vista all updated with the latest security issues.

      There could be many reasons here. Can you phone your ISP and get them to walk you through the setup.

        one thing you could try if you have not yet would be to release and renew your ip information:

        go to
        start
        run
        type in CMD and press enter
        at the command prompt type the following commands:

        ipconfig /release
        ipconfig /renew

        let us know if this solves your issue.

          You may need to change the channel on the Router, your ISP should help

            Open a "Command Prompt" window on the laptop and see if you can "ping" an internet website (both by Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) and numeric IP address).  For example:
                 o  ping www.computerhope.com
                 o  ping 69.72.169.241

            Report the results.  If they were not both successful, then "post" the results of the following command: "ipconfig /all".

            It might be easier to capture the output using a variation of the command: "ipconfig /all > %systemdrive%\computerhope.txt" or "ipconfig /all |more".

            In the first variation, the command output is redirected to file "computerhope.txt" in the root directory of your system drive.
