~$documentfilename.doc. Is this virus?

Hi computer hope. Anytime i opened microsoft word document, the file got duplicated with other file name. It went like this, the file's name was recentfile.doc. When it was opened, suddenly there came up the duplicate take after it, like this:  ~$centfile.doc. It couldn't be deleted if the original file was still running. I tried using updated avast and antimalware, but came in vain only to clean this weird duplicate. Thanks for helping.

I am going to take a wild guess here and say that once you close the original file the "duplicate" goes away correct.

that is a temporary file used by Microsoft Word.

Actually, I believe it's original purpose was simply to indicate the file was open across network shares back in the windows 3.1 days; if the file was present, the doc was open, otherwise assume it was closed.

That might explain why it's always so small.

Thanks everyone for the explanation. That's right, when the original file was closed, the duplicate dissapeared too! So this is only temporary file? And no need to be wary? Okay. I'm glad knowing my pc is fine. Thanks.
